You Are Better Than This

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18

What efforts are you making to improve yourself so that you will be at the cutting edge? Another year is gradually rolling off and a New Year will soon start. Just a few days ago we heralded the year 2013. Whether you like it or not, in less than seven weeks from now, we will be wishing ourselves a happy New Year. Think of what you presently have and ask yourself whether that is what you want. You will be surprised how many people are living their lives holding on tight to something because they believe its easy to keep; and they are not ready to pay the price for something better. Wake up and smell the coffee! Wake up! Do not walk about with spiritual cataract in your eyes. It is like when you want to go for workout, you find out that whenever the time comes to get up, your body will be crying out and if you are not careful, you will say to yourself, let me have some sleep at that point, the secret is to quickly brace yourself up, jump out from the bed and get some work out. When you do, by the time you finish, you are happier with the exercise and your decision. Your body will always cry out for comfort but if the body is to improve, something has to give way. This is why Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: you must learn to bring your body into subjection so that you can always do what you ought to do and not what your body wants to do.

Show me any successful person, I will show you someone who at one time or the other told him or herself I am better than this. Show me a successful person, I will show you someone who understood and practiced delayed gratification. The benefit of delayed gratification is success. When you understand like Paul said in Rom. 8:18 that the suffering you are putting yourself through the pressure, the sleepless nights etc. are nothing compared to the glory ahead. Then you will set your face like a flint, put your body under and move on. You cannot afford to eat every time you feel like eating, you cannot afford to sleep every time you feel sleepy; you cannot even afford to talk every time you feel like talking. There is time for everything and understanding and practicing this fact will take you to your desired haven. Where you are today is not your best; you are better than this. Arise and get to work; do something you dont want to do but you need to do so that you can get to the place you desire to be. In summary, discipline yourself.
