Unto Us A Child Is Born
December 23, Tuesday

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”. Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

Jesus came as a child and walked through the earth to show us the way. Jesus knew that it was not enough to issue instructions; He decided to come and be the perfect example that we can follow. If you read that scripture too quickly, you will miss a major point: a child is born but also notice the next phrase says unto us, a Son is given. He came as a child and took on humanity, but He is the Son of God and upon the shoulder of His position as a Son rests the government. What is that showing us today, God expects us, His children, to grow from being children to sonship. The position of a son is the position of responsibility. Don’t expect the benefits of being a son if you do not grow to becoming a son.

Galatians 4:1 makes it very clear. It says the heir as long as he is a child differs nothing from a servant. Did you see that? Is he the heir? Yes. Does all the inheritance belong to him? Yes. But does he have access to them? The answer is NO. Yes they are his, but he must grow up to take responsibility to access them. The same thing with Christians; don’t stop at being a child of God; grow into sonship.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in this season, pay close attention to your growth in Christ. Study the word and be a doer of the word. No matter where you are in your walk with God, don’t rest on your oars, you must press on to know Him.
