“And David said to Michal, ‘It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord-and I will celebrate before the Lord.'” 2 Samuel 6:21 (ESV)

Today, I challenge you to not give in to scoffers. Some people will challenge your celebration. They will reel out the events of the past and ask why you are celebrating. They will try to discourage you and make you think that the word is not working, but I beseech you by the mercies of God to not give in to them.

In our scripture today, David’s wife was upset with him for dancing before the people. She felt the king was too dignified to dance before the people and the ark of the Lord. Use your imagination: David had just brought back the ark of the Lord and was entering his house to bless his household (2 Samuel 6:20). You will recall that he had previously attempted to bring in the ark, using a cart that led to the death of Uzzah (2 Samuel 6:6-7). Now, David, determined to bring the ark into the city, has made a second attempt. This time he followed the rules of the ark and succeeded in bringing it into the City of David. Was the ark not reason enough to celebrate? Everyone else celebrated but as David came to his house to bless his household, instead of receiving the warm welcome from his wife, she began to scold him for dancing “shamelessly”. Can you imagine how David’s spirit would have fallen while all the excitement flew out the window? However, this is not what David did; he addressed his wife, Michal, sharing his reason for celebrating. I believe that he kept celebrating, and the end result was that Michal was barren while the Kingdom continued in the spirit of rejoicing.

Learn from David. Let no one stop you from celebrating this year. Choose to celebrate and God will bring your desires to pass.
