“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Genesis 2:18 (KJV)

Today, as we celebrate mothers, I want to remind all men that after God gave man dominion over all that He had created, He prepared a garden for him. A garden is an organised bush, so God set organisation in motion by carefully planting man in the garden. But that was not all. God looked at man, saw all the plants and animals, and knew that man was incomplete. So He went a step further and brought the woman out of the man.

In other words, God looked at man and said, “You are not good until I complete you. I’m going to get somebody that will complete you.” He made a woman out of the man and said: “Now you are good.” Therefore, until a man has a woman by his side as his wife, he is not good (that goes for all bachelors who are of marriageable age and are dragging their feet). If a woman is the one who makes man very good, how then could you maltreat your wife? It should not be heard of among believers. No matter what she has done to you, you must find a way to settle matters amicably as the head of the home. Never maltreat your wife with talk, much less abuse her physically. The woman is God’s gift to man and she should be treated as such and treasured.

Every man should nurture, appreciate, and make his wife be what he wants her to be. In this way, she will always be a jewel to you. And to children, you should honour your mother. Love and respect her. Understand that she gave you life and as such you walk in God’s blessing when you honour and respect your mother. Today, being Mothering Sunday, I encourage every husband to give his wife a special treat. It does not have to be expensive; you do not have to break the bank. But make her feel loved and appreciated, and I encourage every woman to reciprocate this gesture. Whatever the devil has tried to use to bring separation to your home, I curse it today in Jesus name. I pray that the love of God will flow unhindered in your home and that your home will be an example for all believers in Jesus name. Once again, happy Mother’s Day.
