SPIRITUAL EVALUATION (1)

SPIRITUAL EVALUATION (1) Thursday, 23 April 2015

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV)

I want to challenge you today to stop and take stock. As I have always said, it is insanity to do things the same way over and over again and expect a different result. Stop and think. In the past few months, how have you fared? Have you been submissive to authority? Have you followed the plan that God laid for you at the beginning of the year? Have you taken time to study the word of God, pray and/or spread the good news? Have you given as God has laid in your heart or are you giving according to what you see your neighbour give? Have you been committed to soul winning and group activities as you should or have you taken each day as it comes singing “qui sera sera”?

Many times it is easy to take the grace and goodness of God for granted. It is easy to just coast through the year and believe you are doing your best, which may be far from the truth. But because you are not checking your performance against any goal, you live in the euphoria that all is well. The scripture above is very instructive at this time, because it is so easy to look around and convince yourself that you are doing well. Don’t judge yourself by your imagination of the effort of the next person. We are all gifted differently. You cannot be a five talent person and judge yourself by a one talent person’s effort? No, you would have missed it. Don’t live by what people are saying. Ask yourself, in the deep recesses of your heart: are you living up to God’s expectation?
