“Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:7 (KJV)

Joshua came to a cross road in his walk on earth. The crossroad was that Moses the miracle worker had died and as far as he was concerned, God is dead and nothing can happen again. He must have been wailing and crying that now that Moses is dead, how can he ever fulfil the promise of God.

God steps in and says Moses my servant is dead. In other words, God was saying to Joshua: Moses is my servant and not your servant. He is my own servant and I know the assignment I gave him, so what is your problem. Why are you crying over spilt milk. His death was not accidental, I the Lord knew about it.”

In the same instance, God commands Joshua saying “Now therefore arise”. You will take Israel across the Jordan River to a land I have given them (Joshua 1:2). You don’t cross the Jordan by sitting down; you have to go forward. The instruction to Joshua was “Be thou strong and very courageous”. Joshua this book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, you shall meditate therein day and night and observe to do whatsoever I have commanded you and you will make your way prosperous and have good success.

Joshua took his destiny in his hands and arose and started moving. They got to Jordan River and the bible tells us that Jordan at that time had overflowed its banks. In other words, it was an impossible task. You cannot even come near it. But God’s instruction to Joshua was to take the children of Israel over the Jordan. God did not bring them there to die, nor was it for them to face disappointments. He did not bring them there for the enemy to have them in derision. The reason was for God to show that these were his people. They served him and because they served him nothing can defeat them. So Joshua put their feet into the Jordan and Jordan parted for them.

Like Joshua be bold and very courageous. Step into the water today. It will part for you. Go forwards in Jesus name.
