“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,” Phil 3:10 (KJV)

Paul’s success and advancement in life and in ministry can be summed up in one statement “this one thing I do” Oftentimes, in our work with God, He has a way of summarizing lots of principles into one. God zeroes in on one thing that if you can get this, you have gotten the whole thing. Just like the scripture records that “Love is the end of all commandments, that if you have love for one another, it covers the entire Ten Commandments.

Jesus said to the rich man, “one thing thou lackest”. He goes on to say to Martha “You are careful about many things, but one thing is needful”. It is good to take care of the house, to cook and work for God but you must pursue that which is needful. Martha was busy in the house but Mary was attentive to the Lord in sermon and she got the needful thing, the one thing. And because she got that one thing it took care of everything else. If you get the “one thing” it takes care of the other things.

Child of God the “one thing” is the word of God. Hebrews 11:3 says “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”. So all things came out from the word. It is the word of God that can get into your life all things that your heart longs for. The word is powerful, errorless, impregnable, authoritative, sure and everlasting. If you can lay hold on it then you can make a demand on the things and you will be granted divine access because you have gotten the “one needful thing” Today, I pray that your eyes be open to the very needful thing. As you hold on to the word of God, you will go from strength to strength.
